In response to the global shortage of blood donations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Saath Youth partnered with Red Cross Australia for the 2021 Saath Youth Blood Drive.

Taking place across 2 weeks starting on 12th April 2021, Saath Members had the opportunity to give to those most vulnerable in our community by donating blood and plasma in staggered groups of 5 at the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Centre.

It was a great success with approximately 50 successful donation of blood and plasma leading to over 100 lives saved. We want to thank all our volunteers for your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute to such a worthy cause.

where DID my blood go?

After collection and processing, donations were shipped directly to hospitals in NSW. There, donations were used in transfusions for patients with serious traumatic injuries, cancer, chronic illnesses, anaemia, blood disorders and many more. Plasma transfusions were used specifically in patients facing liver failure, severe infections and serious burns.

WHAT DID THE DONATION PROCESS LOOK LIKE?

  1. Assess if you meet the eligibility criteria

  2. Fill out the Saath Blood Drive EOI Form

  3. Fill out the Red Cross Enrolment Form (if you have NOT donated before)

  4. Attend your allocated blood donation time slot

  5. Once the donation has been collected, you will be provided with snacks or refreshments

HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M ELIGIBLE TO DONATE for the next blood drive?
